My shih tzu has yeast growing on her front legs and under her chin as well as really flaky skin, what can I do

The yeast is also on her face, and back paws which she chews nonstop. For the yeast I've used Malaseb shampoo and for the flaky skin I've used NuSalt shampoo, both recommended by my vet. Both shampoos did the job for a while but now seem to be ineffective.

Miconozole helped my dog get over this, along with the dandruff shampoos.

I thought my husband was nuts when he brought home the Miconozole "he's a boy, he hasn't got a vagina" is what I said, but the same thing used for vaginal yeast infections works for dogs' skin yeast infections. My vet said to use this, and it worked very well.

You can buy the generic cream at Walmart cheaply - apply twice a day untilt he yeast infection is gone - you need to be persistent and keep doing it until all of the infection clears up.

Good luck.

It's so complicated an answer that the best way is for you to go to www.nzymes.com

Also, whatever you are feeding your dog right now is NOT working. Time for a serious upgrade.

Yeast can be treated, however, it takes a long time and persistance. But nothing will be accomplished if you don't learn about diet %26amp; nutrition.
Reply:are you feeding out of a plastic bowl?? water?/

if so switch to a STAINLESS STEEL or Ceramic bowl..

bacteria can live in plastic and cause skin problems...

also check the dogs food to see if it doesnt have any problem allergins in it...

Reply:Did you actually take the dog into the vet, or just call for shampoo recommendations? If the vet actually saw the dog, then it is time for a recheck. If not, please take it in to be evaluated. As with most treatments, you need to switch around a bit because they become ineffective after a while. Good luck!
Reply:try live yogart? it's got good stuff in it and ur dog can eat it and it wont harm it :P
Reply:TEATREE OIL... mixed with a soap like oatmeal bath by Paul Mitchell...

Teatree oil is a natural antifungal and antibiotic to help heal the skin...

If you do not want to put it in her wash use a cotton ball and dab it on her twice a day for 7 days ....
