Reply:If you purchased the apple from a super market it was most likely coated with a food grade paraffin wax to make it more attractive to the customer hot water did two things it was hot enough to turn the wax white and and warmed the apple promoting decay and turning it mushy under the skin next time try cool water and a soft scotchbrite sponge the one with the white abrasive pad and you will come out just fine
