What chemicals are present in a banana skin?

The bbc web site recommends using the inside of a banana skin to cure a verruca, but it gives no basis for this. I asked this question under "skin conditions" but didn't get an answer which satisfied me.

Is there a chemist in the house who could give me a scientific basis for the bbc's suggestion? Is there a chemical present in the inside of a banana skin that could react with a verruca?

Or is this just an old wives' tale. I'd love to know.

Reply:i cant say if this is an old wives tale but i know banana skins give off a gas which rippens fruit quickly if placed next to them so may be there is some truth in it, would love to know myself
Reply:Eating a banana is supposed to help cure any cyanide poisoning, so its probably something that cures cyanide poisoning.
