What is the piece of skin called that is attached to the gums under your top lip?

My son just sliced his tonight and it is now not attached to the gums anymore. Will this cause speech problems or is it a useless piece of skin?

That's called a labial frenum. It will grow back.

Upper labial frenum..

There's also a lower labial frenum that is attached to your lower lip, and the lingual frenum that's located under your tongue... just FYI.
