I think its time that courts and our justice system is open to all poor, in Reality, rather than just in the freedom folk lure. Anyone agree?
Yes, my research says up to 98% of all cases filed or defended by the underpaid who cannot afford lawyer are lost BEFORE trial. They are dismissed without evidence every being presented, upon weak or non existant technicalities.
This means regardless of the freedom folklure, the Courts doors are CLOSED to those who can not pay 1/4 of their yearly income to a lawyer.
How many believe its time for Civil Rights for the Under paid of all skin tones?
I stay out of court. If you don't commit crimes this is a nonexistant worry.
How many believe its time for Civil Rights for the Under paid of all skin tones?
I'm a believer
Reply:It's the way of mankind, been going on for many milliniumns and will for many more. Ya, it should be changed but it won't be.
Reply:I think that's why SOME lawyers do Pro Bono work!
And usually the ones that do are really good. If you need some recommendations in OC, CA e-mail me.
Reply:I am right there with you.
Reply:Everyone is entitled to a FREE LAWYER, so your statement can not be entered as evidence , case closed,
Reply:Money talks. Those who have to rely on court ordered lawyers are usually convicted before they even see the courtroom. Sad truth is, lawyers who take on court appointed cases are those who can't get paying clients. Either just out of school and haven't built a practice, or lawyers who aren't good at the job.
Reply:this is capitalism. in a perfect world and utopian society what you are saying is great. the laws should be changed accordingly. everyone who does a crime gets charged with the same punishment. this would eliminate much of the problems with the poor and kick out lawyers all together for the most part. how ever the country would have to straighten out this guilty until proven innocent mentality. i know it is supposed to be the other way around but it is not. the prison system is over crowded due to rediculous charges. jailing people who do not belong in jail and letting others go free who reek havoc around this nation. if the americans just work together to reform the system what you are saying would be wonderful!
Reply:The issue is with the lawyers. I have met many lawyers, and would trust none of them near cash, or even in my home. Lawyers design legal documents in language that must be interpreted by - lawyers. I'm sure there are some good lawyers out there doing good things (like the ACLU), but for the most part, justice in America is equal to your financial statement.
Just like Health Care and Education.
Reply:Count me in. We have enough billionaires. They do not deserve to make in a day what a middle class person makes in a year. It is time to let the rich earn a living just like everyone else..
Reply:People can look in the Yellow Pages where I live, and there is an endless list of attorneys for poor people, as long as you can prove your income. I don't know where you live, but they must not really be up to date, are they?
Besides, I took my own case to trial (it was a garnishment issue) and the judge ruled in my favor. I didn't need an attorney, I was my own (of course I was a law enforcement student and I did know what I was doing (2 1/2 years ago). But still, if you research and study your own case and defense, you can represent yourself. The judge isn't informed of that until you stand before him/her.
